Photograph was taken in February during another drought year in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Alabama Hills are visible in the foreground, a popular location for filming several movies. To learn more about  movie history in the Alabama Hills visit the Movie Museum in Lone Pine, CA. The peaks in this image reach 14,000 feet elavation. Nearby Mt Whitney (14,505 feet) is the highest point in the contiguous USA. From Mt. Whitney it is possible to see Badwater Basin (282 feet below sea level) the lowest point in North America, just 85 miles east-southeast in Death Valley National Park.
