Columbia River Gorge, Oregon/Washinton, USA
The Columbia River National Scenic area is bordered by Washington to the north and Oregon to the south. Home to mutiple waterfalls, old growth forest and abundant hiking and fishing opportunities, the Columbia River Scenic area is highly photographed and yet, there's still endless opportunities for original interpretations. This image formed in my mind from years of doing early morning drives from Portland to points east. A common local weather pattern is for clouds to form over the western portion of the gorge with clear skies in the east. When the cloud cover and sunrise ideally align, the result is a beautiful display of color, light and shadows. This photograph is the result of being persistant after many previous failed attempts. Nikon D800, 24-70mm, F8, ISO 100, 5 image HDR composite, 1:3 pano crop.
